I came across this video while studying how to build backlinks for my sites. Building backlinks is one of the ways to get a site ranked high in Google and other search engines. I think this video explains very nicely how Yahoo Answers can help do that but also build customers one customer at a time.

I built this site using SEO techniques starting with the keyword research. As I work in the lighting industry I started my search with the keyword “lighting” and that research brought me to “solar garden lights” keyword. The way I selected this is by looking at the competition the keyword gets. That is easy enough. I went to Google and typed “solar garden lights” and saw that the top 4 have anywhere between Page Rank (PR) 3 and 4. I think I can do better so I started the site.
According to my calculations this site can bring about $500 revenue and I will explain how I came up with that number later. But that only can happen if I land on the first 4 of the first page. So the site is ready to go. I has good content and I also built in an Amazon aStore into it. Which is very simple to do. Now I have to build links to the site.
One of the ways to build links is to write articles and submit to article directories. I am about to do that and let you know how it turns out.

So I have been learning how to build backlinks to my sites. What that means is this: For Google or any other Search Engine wants to know whether there are other sites that link to you site. Let me explain: You got to CNN.com and you see a link and when you click on the link you get to the other site. That other site has a backlink from CNN.com. Why this is important? Well the more backlinks your site has the more Google thinks you are worth of being on the top of the search page. The best way I read this explained is that landing on the first page is a popularity contest and the backlinks tell Google how popular you are. Now don’t get me wrong this is not the only thing that gets you ranked. There are a ton of other things and I will cover them as we move a long. But these days that is what I am working on so that is what I am writing about.
